Brilliant Blue G Recall - Fungal Endophthalmitis - Eye Injury Lawsuit

Brilliant Blue G is a blue dye that is used to treat spinal injuries as well as retinal surgery and other eye problems.
Brilliant Blue G Recall
The FDA has received reports of fungal endophthalmitis (eye infections) in patients who were given Brilliant Blue G (BBG), supplied by Franck's Pharmacy, during eye surgeries. Clinicians in several states have also reported these adverse events.
The FDA also announced that it has received multiple reports of serious eye infections in patients who were given injections with triamcinolone, the active ingredient contained in Brilliant Blue G.
According to the FDA the Brilliant Blue G (BBG) was supplied by Franck’s Compounding Lab in Ocala, Florida. In response to the adverse event reports, Franck’s Pharmacy issued a nationwide recall for all lots of Brilliant Blue G on March 9, 2012. Brilliant Blue G is not currently approved by the FDA.
The following lots of Brilliant Blue G have been recalled due to suspected fungal contamination:

Signs and symptoms of Brilliant Blue G-induced fungal endophthalmitis may include:
- loss of vision due to complications from eye infections
- decreased vision
- redness primarily after surgery of the eye
- blurred vision
