05/09/2008 - A popular drug used to help people quit smoking is now being linked to depression and suicidal behavior.
Back in 2006, Pfizer introduced the drug Chantix to help smokers kick the habit.
But because of growing safety concerns, the Food and Drug Administration has revised its guidelines for the medication, warning users of the psychiatric risks linked to Chantix.
The guidelines also mention other options besides the popular drug and recommend counseling.
If you are currently taking Chantix and have concerns about its safety, you should consult with your doctor regarding your treatment options. Under no circumstances should you discontinue taking any medication, including Chantix, without first consulting with your doctor.
