Covidien Recalls Shiley Adult Tracheostomy

08/06/2012 - On August 4, 2012, Covidien announced that it notified customers about a voluntary recall of certain lots of its Shiley reusable cannula, cuffed adult tracheostomy tubes, size 8. This tracheostomy recall was prompted after reports of volume leakage and/or disconnection between the inner and outer cannulae. Volume leakage and/or disconnection can impact ventilation.
Customers are instructed to return all affected devices. If a device is already in use in a patient, the tube should be replaced by the patient’s physician.
The affected devices were distributed October 2009 through June 2012.
