Three families sue Mylan over painkiller patch
-Philly.com
07/15/2008- Survivors of three people who overdosed on a painkilling patch are suing generic drug producer Mylan Inc. in Monongalia County Circuit Court.
The complaints allege Canonsburg, Pa.-based Mylan manufactured a defective product and failed to adequately warn users of the risk of death.
The cases are filed by survivors of Kathy Mace, who died in October 2005; Linda Burrell, who died in April 2006; and James Pope, who died in July 2007.
The patch uses fentanyl, a narcotic 80 times stronger than morphine.
The Food and Drug Administration approved five strengths of Mylan's generic version of the Duragesic patch sold by Johnson & Johnson Inc.
Mylan, which has a lab in Morgantown, says it doesn't comment on lawsuits.
