Fall Danger Prompts High

04/05/2009 - A voluntary recall of almost 733,000 Evenflo high chairs was announced Thursday by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recall involves all 643,000 Evenflo Envision high chairs as well as some 90,000 Majestic high chairs (95,000 of which were the focus of a recall in December).
According to press releases, the recline fasteners and metal screws on both sides of the high chair can loosen and fall out, allowing the seatback to detach or recline unexpectedly. Detached hardware also poses a choking hazard to children.
The commission said the company based in Miamisburg, Ohio, has received a combined 336 reports of seatbacks detaching or reclining unexpectedly, resulting in 24 reports of bumps and bruises to the head and 40 reports of other injuries including abrasions, pinches and bruises.
Evenflo has also received reports of recline fasteners and screws falling out of the high chairs, although no choking incidents occurred.
The commission said consumers should stop using the high chairs immediately unless otherwise instructed.
