Another recall issued for Ford Windstar
- Examiner.com
02/02/2011 - What is turning out to be the biggest recall of 2011, another Ford Windstar recall has been issued today. Related to the same problems as the Ford Windstar rear axle recall that has killed two people, the latest recall is for the Ford Windstar's front lower control arm. This is a very serious recall, if not more serious than the original rear axle issue as it deals directly with a steering component of the Ford Windstar.
According to NHTSA, "A separation of a front lower control arm rear attaching bracket may result in a lower control arm separation of both front subframe rear body mounts, which may result in separation of the steering intermediate shaft. This could result in reduced steering control, increasing the risk of a crash."
If your front lower control arm comes lose, you basically will have no control over that wheel. It will wobble furiously if the separation occurs at high speed, and more than likely cause the vehicle to flip according to several interviewed ASE certified mechanics. This recall is serious, and should not be taken lightly. You should look under your car and check for rust, separation, or fatigue. If you have these signs and your steering feels loose, or you notice any violent vibration, it is suggested that you have your vehicle towed to the dealership.
