| Truck Catches Fire in Brooklyn Center Driveway
-FOX News
04/17/2009 - A mother and son had a very close call, as just moments after parking their pick-up truck in their driveway, it burst into flames.
This happened on Lakeshore Drive this afternoon. Leslie Liner had just used her boyfriend’s Ford F-150 to pick up her daughter from school. After going in the house, a door-to-door salesman came and told her the truck was on fire. It was his first day on the job in the neighborhood.
Liner and her daughter ran into the backyard as Brooklyn Center firefighters arrived to try and douse the flames. By the time her boyfriend, Jim Richards, got home, all that was left of his truck was a burned out shell.
Richards says he knows the Ford F-150 was part of a recent recall. “They kept sending me letters saying there was a recall but the parts weren’t in yet,” he said. He also says the problem with the truck had something to do with the cruise control catching on fire.”
The Brooklyn Center Fire Department is still investigating what caused the fire. Ford is telling F-150 owners whose trucks haven’t been fixed to take them to a dealer so the cruise control can be turned off.
