Fresenius Dialysis Products GranuFlo and NaturaLyte Linked to Sudden Cardiac Death and Cardiac Injuries-Do You Have A Lawsuit?
- Ennis & Ennis
11/27/2012 - The Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) dialysis products GranuFlo and NaturaLyte may cause up to a six-fold increase for cardiopulmonary arrest and sudden cardiac death. Even more disturbing is that FMC was aware of the dangers associated with GranuFlo and NaturaLyte but hid information about patient safety hazards in order to put profits ahead of patient safety. This egregious conduct has placed more than 50% of all dialysis patients in the United States at risk for cardiac complications. It is estimated that over 3,000 dialysis clinics treating more than 250,000 dialysis patients may still be using these potentially dangerous products.
An FDA investigation against FMC led to the Class I recall of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte on June 27, 2012. It is incredulous that FMC executives knew about the increased risk of cardiac arrest and death associated with GranuFlo since at least 2010. Even more disturbing is that this information was held at the corporate level for 15 months before it was shared even to Fresenius’ own operating clinics, let alone the unsuspecting Public.
Who May Qualify for Compensation?
Cardiac death is recognized as the number one cause of death for dialysis patients. The use of the FMC products, GranuFlo and/or NaturaLyte exacerbate this problem by causing high bicarbonate levels which may result in metabolic alkalosis- a risk associated with low blood pressure, hypokalemia, hypoxemia, cardiac arrhythmia, cardiopulmonary arrest and death. If you or a loved one have received the GranuFlo and/or NaturaLyte product and suffered one of the following complications within 48 hours of receiving the product, you may be entitled to compensation:
- Cardiopulmonary arrest
- Heart problems
- Metabolic alkalosis
- Sudden MI or heart attack
- Stroke, and/or death
