GranuFlo Heart Attack and Death Lawsuits Continue to Rise as GranuFlo still on the Market

10/23/2012 - Lawsuits against the Fresenius Medical Center for severe cardiac injury and wrongful death resulting from the use of the GranuFlo and NaturaLyte products continue to rise nationwide. Recently wrongful death lawsuits were filed in the Southern District of Florida, the Northern District of Alabama and in Georgia alleging patients suffered fatal cardiovascular events after undergoing dialysis treatment involving GranuFlo and/or NaturaLyte.

Fresenius Medical Care, which is the largest provider of dialysis machines, treatment products and treatment centers, was well aware of the problems with its products, GranuFlo and NaturaLyte, which caused over 940 deaths in 2010. These products put patients at six times the risk of suffering severe cardiac injuries and other health problems.  The New York Times recently published an article exposing several disturbing internal memos wherein Fresenius warned its own centers regarding the dangers of its products, but failed to warn other dialysis centers which also utilized the GranuFlo and NaturaLyte products.

When the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) became aware of the memo, it launched an investigation resulting in a Class I recall of the product on June 27, 2012. Unfortunately for consumers, the recall did NOT result in the products being removed from the market.  Instead, stronger warnings have been placed on the label regarding dosing amounts and warning doctors to use extra caution when determining the proper dosing amounts for GranuFlo and NaturaLyte.  As such, more lawsuits can be expected as the products remain on the market for public consumption.
