Hydroxycut Cut from Market

-EmpowHer

05/09/2009 - “Natural” does not mean safe. Billions of dollars are spent every year on supplements that do not have to be proven safe or effective. Hydroxycut has been added to the list of Herbalife and others to be dangerous and even deadly.

The FDA has recommended that consumers stop using Hydroxycut since it has received 23 reports of liver problems in people who used Hydroxycut, some of whom needed liver transplants, and one death has been reported. There are several other serious problems that some Hydroxycut users have had, including seizures; rhabdomyolysis. (A type of muscle damage that can lead to other dangerous problems, such as kidney failure), and cardiovascular problems, ranging in severity from irregular heartbeat to a heart attack.

What are they symptoms of these liver problems?

Symptoms of serious liver disease include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes) and brown urine. Liver disease can also have nausea, vomiting, light-colored stools, unusual tiredness, weakness, stomach or abdominal pain, itching, and loss of appetite.

What in Hydroxycut is causing the problem?

Hydroxycut products contain a variety of ingredients, including herbal extracts, chemicals and metals and we don’t know what is causing these problems. Ephedra was removed from hydroxycut in 1994 but has been replaced with heavy metals like lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury and other drugs like caffeine, synephrine, and botanical sources of caffeine.

Were people taking the products overdosing or unhealthy?

The majority of people were taking the recommended dose and did not have any pre-existing medical problems so everyone should stop all use of Hydroxycut. Symptoms can occur while taking Hydroxycut, or they could occur up to several months after you stopped taking it. Click here for more info from FDA

What about other “natural” dietary supplements that claim weight loss?

“Natural” ingredients don’t necessarily mean that a product is safe. Many substances that come from nature can be poisonous. People think that they are using natural products but they are actually using products without testing or safety disclosure. In fact, one of the main ingredients in hydroxycut was proven NOT to help people lose weight but they can still claim a weight loss aide since it is a “dietary supplement”.

According to the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, dietary supplements are not required to be safe or effective prior to marketing. The FDA can only restrict the product once it has been shown to pose a: significant and unreasonable risk like the death that was recently seen.

How do you lose weight safely?

There is no easy or quick fix. It is a slow lifestyle and mind set change. You want to find a program where you lose no more than 1-2 pounds per week and don’t feel deprived. Eat less, move more, drink water and if you want caffeine, drink it in the form of green tea or coffee but limit them to 2 cups a day. Most overweight people are emotional over eaters and finding healthy ways to deal with stress and emotions such as boredom, loneliness or anger are the keys to permanent weight loss.
