Hydroxycut recalled: Southeast Texans suing for liver damage

07/12/2009 - Two Southeast Texans have hired an attorney after experiencing adverse side effects when taking Hydroxycut, a popular dietary supplement that has been linked to liver problems. One death due to liver failure has been reported to the FDA.
Hydroxycut, a line of herbal dietary supplements, is marketed for weight loss, body sculpting and athletic performance.
Iovate Health Sciences Inc., a Canadian-based company, is voluntarily recalling more than a dozen of its products.
In May, the FDA warned consumers to stop using more than a dozen Hydroxycut products.
The agency has received 23 reports of serious health problems, ranging from jaundice and elevated liver enzymes, an indicator of liver damage, to liver damage requiring liver transplant, according to the FDA.
A Beaumont attorney is representing the plaintiffs in lawsuits against the Hydroxycut manufacturer.
