Wright Medical Recalls Dynasty Biofoam Shell

04/11/2012 - In February, Wright Medical Technology recalled over 5,300 Dynasty Biofoam Shell devices after learning that debris from the packaging spacer can be unintentionally implanted into a patient and can potentially lead to complications that might necessitate a revision surgery. Wright’s Dynasty Biofoam Shell devices are used as hip acetabular shells.

Newer Doesn’t Always Mean Better When It Comes to Hip Implants

01/05/2012 - A new Austrian study confirms several previous studies’ findings that metal-on-metal (MoM) hip implants do not perform any better than older, less expensive designs. The five-year study, published by The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (JBJS), revealed that not only are the newer hip and knee replacement joints made of all metal not performing any better, but 30 percent of the new joints actually performed worse than older versions that are made of polyethylene, requiring revisions surgery in patients.

Oregon Lawsuit Filed: Wright Conserve Hip Implant Caused Metal Poisoning

12/09/2011 - Christine Minton and her husband Michael have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon against Wright Medical. The Mintons are alleging that the Wright Conserve Hip System caused her to suffer metal blood poisoning and permanent injury. Minton also accuses Wright Medical of failing to properly test the Wright Conserve Hip replacement device, as well as manufacturing and selling the defective device.
