Yamaha Rhino ATV:
The Yamaha Rhino is an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) manufactured by Yamaha Motor Company from 2004- Present. The models from 2004-2007 are the particular models that have had lawsuits filled against the ATV.
What are the complaints about?
The Rhino is susceptible to rollovers when turning, remarkably even at low speeds even on flat terrain. Individuals who have driven the ATV have acknowledged stability problems due several issues:
- Too top heavy
- Too narrow a track-width
- Too high a center of gravity
- Too small of wheels for proper stability
Has Yamaha addressed the issues?
Yamaha Motor Company has yet to formally recall the Yamaha Rhino, despite the safety issues on the models manufactured from 2004-2007. The issue is within the designing of the ATV. However on the 2008 models Yamaha conveniently added half doors and handholds which would prevent a riders' limbs from flying out during an accident. Subsequently in August 2007 Yamaha offered to install doors and additional passenger handholds for the 2004-2007 models free of charge.
Have injuries occurred?
Both drivers and passengers of the Rhino have sustained injuries. These injuries occur due to the individuals' limb is on the outside of the ATV upon rollover. Victims have suffered but were not limited to several injuries including:
- Crushed/Broken Leg/Arm
- Amputation of a limb
- Entrapment under the ATV following a rollover
- Head Trauma
