Dometic RV Refrigerators Attorneys Serving Nationwide

Fires are the worst nightmares of homeowners, and they can be just as frightening for you as an RV owner. You’ve likely invested the same amount of time and money into your home away from home as you have in a stationary home. Motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheel trailers and luxury RVs are supposed to be safe, but it takes one defective product causing a fire to undermine this sense of safety.

Since 1997, more than 3,000 RV fires and explosions have been caused by Dometic refrigerators. These have also been known to be installed in horse trailers, boats and conversion vehicles. These explosions and fires have caused more than $100 million in property damage and injuries.

Between 1997 and 2006, these failing gas absorption refrigerators were installed in 1.5 million RVs. Dometic issued recalls for these products but had initially failed to warn or fully resolve the issues with these refrigerators.

If you have a Dometic refrigerator, you may be at risk for loss of property or even your life. The cause of these fires stems from small stress fractures that develop in the boiler tubes. These cracks release the ammonia refrigerant solution, which can ignite if exposed to a spark or flame.

To find out if your Dometic refrigerator is subject to recall, you may find that information at the company’s website or by contacting an attorney at Ennis & Ennis, P.A.

Norcold Refrigerator Fire Recall

In 2002, the Sidney, Ohio company of Norcold, Inc. voluntarily recalled 360 of its free-standing, combination gas and electric refrigerators. Tubing in the cooling unit was prone to cracking. Flammable gas leaking from these fractures in the tubing presented a fire or burn hazard for consumers who had these products in their recreational vehicles. The Norcold refrigerators affected by the recall are models 1200, 1201, 1210 and 1211.
